Koh Samui, “Heaven in the Gulf of Thailand"

Sea of Love is a series of animated stories about loving friends from different species. Produced by Thai animators, the series highlights the beauty of friendship from the perspectives of different undersea creatures. Even though the animation is aimed at preschoolers, the series presents the true nature of Thailand’s world’s famous and beautiful seas, instilling a love for nature in the young viewers.

Koh Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand, 84 kilometers east of Surat Thani province. The road around the island (Thaweerat Pakdi Road) is 52 kilometers long. The recommended period for visiting the island is January-May when the seas are calmer and perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or diving.

Popular destinations for foreign tourists

Koh Samui has long been a favored destination among foreign tourists. Often referred to as “Heaven in the Gulf of Thailand”, it was recently ranked the Seventh Best Island in the Word by the famous travel magazine Travel+Leisure in the World Best Award 2021.

One of the reasons tourists love to come to Koh Samui is for the island’s many beautiful beaches. The coconut palm-fringed white sands and clear seawater offer the perfect tropical island getaway for tourists from around the world.

Madsum island
Chaweng Beach

Stretching 6 kilometers along the coast, the island’s longest and most beautiful beach is divided into 4 parts: North Chaweng Beach, Middle Chaweng Beach, South Chaweng Beach, and Little Chaweng Beach. The wide stretch of sand along Chaweng Beach’s length is ideal for many kinds of beach activities, while several great diving spots can be found just off the shore.

Lamai beach

At 4 kilometers in length, Lamai is the second largest beach on the island. Curving from north to south, this outstanding beach is also the setting of Hin Ta and Hin Yai, two highly photogenic granite rocks that have been shaped by the sea and have become a popular check-in point for tourists.

Taling Ngam Beach

Tourists can catch ferries from this beach, which is also known as one of the most beautiful sunset spots on the island. The front part of the gulf is where the Ko Si and Ko Ha islands are located. When the sun dips down between the two islands, it creates a magical sunset photo opportunity that every visitor to the island should experience at least once.

Traveling

There are direct flights from Bangkok, taking about an hour, with several flight options during the day. It is the fastest and most convenient way to visit the island.

Tickets are cheaper for flights to Surat Thani as it takes more time, at about 1 hour and 20 minutes. From the airport, you need to take a bus for about 100 kilometers to the pier where you can then take the ferry to the island. You can buy the tickets for the bus and ferry from different companies at the airport. The total traveling time from Surat Thani to Samui island is about 3.5-4 hours.
